On a beautiful, sunny, summer day July 22, forty five members of the Peter Cameron family gathered at the old family farm, for the 125th anniversary of the beginning of the farm, by our grandfather John Cameron who homesteaded 18-14-27 in 1892.

The time capsule which had beenburied in 1992, was dug up by seven of the great grandchildren. It was opened by Margaret Leary, the oldest of the clan. The contents were examined, replaced, and reburied; along with three new capsules, by Donald and Glen Cameron.

Many pictures were taken, including some from a drone, operated by Shawn, son of the present owner. Six of the seven children were present. Our sister and family from B.C. were absent as they were on fire evacuation.

After leaving the farm, several of us visited the Rose Lea Pioneer cemetery, where our grandparents are buried and also the Miniota Cemetery where our parents are resting. We then returned to Eleanor’s yard in Miniota where a bountiful pot luck supper was enjoyed by all. The evening was spent with visiting and laughter around the fire pit (complete with hot dogs). Guests were from Strongsville, Ohio, Toronto, Ontario, Chestermere, Airdrie and Morrin, Alberta, Moosomin, Sk, Il De Chene,Winnipeg, Portage La Prairie, Clear Lake, Brandon, Kemnay, Alexander, Virden, Elkhorn, and Miniota Manitoba. Wonderful memories reports Margaret Leary.

Visitors with Wayne and Susan Poppel, Jeff and Ashleigh Poppel and Mason, Noah and Emmett were Kathryn Poppel and Brandon Pollard of Blackfoot, Alberta and Laura Poppel and Kevin Mehi of Calgary. A great weekend was enjoyed by all.

Barry and Lynne Cornish were joined by all of their family, Todd, Curt, Kerri-Lynne and Kyla and their children at Elkwater Lake in the Cypress Hills in Alberta to celebrate Barry’s birthday. They report having a great time.

Several from the community took in the annual Fireworks Competition is Moosomin. They report a wonderful show and well worth the trip!
