A woman was out of control in Russell

Alcohol and/or drugs were implicated in an attack.

A woman from Waywayseecappo First Nation, swinging her purse, hit a child on her way to assaulting another person and acting up with police.

On Dec. 15, at approximately 6:45 pm, RCMP responded to an assault at a business on Main Street, in Russell. It was reported that a female who appeared intoxicated had entered the business and assaulted an employee. The employee locked herself into a back room and called police.

Officers immediately attended and arrested the female. The female was combative and spitting at officers. While being transported to the detachment, she continuously kicked at the windows of the police vehicle.

At the detachment, the female attempted to assault members, and refused to identify herself.

Further investigation led officers to identify the female and link her to an earlier assault. Minutes prior to the assault at the business, a man along with a five-year-old child were outside shoveling snow, when the female suspect approached the child and struck him with her purse. She then left the scene.

The child was not physically injured.
