All these calls could have turned out so much worse

Not good for the bear but better than the alternative

During the week of May 16 to May 22, the Westman RCMP dealt with 61 police activities at the following locations:
May 16 – Sioux Valley for a report that a 50-year-old male had been stabbed. Upon police attending, it was not believed that the victim was stabbed, however he did sustain several severe lacerations which required medical attention. After further investigation, a 40-year-old male, and a male youth were both arrested for aggravated assault. The victim has since been released from the hospital.
May 17 – Highway 21 for a report that an unknown male was trying to jump from a bridge. A male matching the description was located at a convenience store down the road. As it turned out, he was just a hitchhiker trying to get to Brandon.
May 18 – Virden for a report of thefts from several vehicles. Among the items stolen were a cell phone and credit cards. The suspect used the credit card at a store with surveillance cameras. Soon thereafter, he was identified, and later located by RCMP in Saskatchewan. When located, he was found to be in possession of a loaded firearm and methamphetamine. The 44-year-old male is now facing several firearms related charges. He is also being charged for drug possession, and for being in possession of stolen property. He was remanded into custody (In Saskatchewan).
May 21 – Virden hospital for a report of an intoxicated male who left without being medically cleared to do so. The male was located and transported back to the hospital where he received treatment for his injury. Once medically cleared, he was transported to the Virden detachment as he was too intoxicated to care for himself. He was released when sober.
May 21 – RCMP received a report of organic remains that were found in Pierson. The remains appeared to be a hand.  The remains were seized, and the major crimes unit was consulted. Upon further investigation, the remains were determined to belong to an Ursus americanus (black bear).
Westman RCMP also responded to four false alarms, and five 911 calls that were determined to not be an emergency. Ten traffic enforcement actions were undertaken during this reporting period.
