When a musical is produced it's not just about the actors and singers on stage, there is a lot of behind the scenes work that goes on. This year Ms. Rhonda Schindler's Graphic Arts and Gr. 9 Art classes from VCI are participating in the musical as well.

The Graphic Arts class, consisting of Liam Skelton, Kylee Sparwood, Bertie Whiteman, Makayla Decroliere, Noah Anderson, Olivia Abel, Hayley Rose Alotinto and Abbey Tomlinson, were responsible for creating the promotional material in the form of posters and tickets.

The students created posters to advertise the play and ultimately one student’s poster was chosen as the winner. Haley Rose Alotinto was the winning designer with all of the other students being close runners up.

As there were three performances of the musical being presented, the Graphic Arts class also created tickets. Three students had their tickets chosen; Abbey Tomlinson, Hayley Rose Alotinto and Olivia Abel to showcase each performance.

Set construction

Sets are another integral part of a musical presentation and Ms. Schindler's Gr. 9 Art Class was tasked with the job of creating trees.

Thanks to the staff of VCI and Dean Munchinsky, the class had many overly large cardboard boxes that they transformed into life-size trees. What may seem like a simple concept included lots of manual labour and artistic skills to turn plain cardboard boxes into ghostly trees of Central Park.

Thanks to the hard work of Emma Gertz, Michael Vachon, Aimee Cox, Anika Miller, Quina Bell, Melissa Rodgers, Jordon Bell, Austin Mead and even Mr. Bertram the trees have come to life.
