On June 16, local agencies can have a dedicated group of volunteers to work on projects that they may not have the time or manpower to complete. Although this is the first year the event will be held in Virden, the Brandon and area United Way have experience with co-ordinating volunteers to help out local non-profit organizations. Sometimes members of one organization will provide a team of volunteers to help another. Sometimes schools or employees of a local business will team up and chip in.
This community-wide United Way event demonstrates the power of volunteering. It is a unique opportunity to come together and make a difference in the community by taking part in meaningful volunteer projects with local community organizations.
Tasks could include anything from painting, landscaping and gardening, to serving meals, sorting donations or event assistance. Volunteers learn about their community through a hands-on experience while projects are completed for agencies.
Projects that can be completed in a day-long or half-day session are eligible, and all necessary tools and supplies must be provided by the applicant.
