What’s cooking at Virden branch of Border Regional Library

2017 Library barbecue - the yummy smell of the Virden library’s noon barbecue draws large crowds every year and within the library patrons pour over box after box of books finding super reading and super deals.

“Every year we have our book sale and barbecue, from which we make $3,000 to $4,000 for the purchase of books,” says head librarian Mary Anne Lamy.

Lamy is very appreciative of the many volunteers who lend a hand organizing the many boxes of books that are donated to the library book sale each year.

Now in the process of planning this event, held the second weekend of June, she says, “We are accepting books for the sale and looking for volunteers.”

Lamy is looking for books that will sell well in the Friday/Saturday sale, but that is difficult to predict or control. “We try to provide a variety of books for sale to please everyone’s palate.”

However, before you donate, there are some books you should recycle in another way.

“We do not accept Readers Digest Condensed books, textbooks, and encyclopedia or VHS tapes

Unsold books must be handled again, as they are boxed up after the Virden sale is over and are sent to the Rotary Club Book Sale in Brandon.

Don’t miss the barbecue - this year’s, the noon lunch is Friday only.
