Attempting to flee from police a suspect slams into a police vehicle, injuring the officer.
On Dec. 29 at approximately 11:55 p.m. Steinbach RCMP received a report of a suspicious vehicle on Highway 52, in Mitchell. Checks on the vehicle determined it was stolen.
Officers made patrols but did not locate the vehicle until a second call was received at approximately 1:05 a.m. advising the vehicle was on Road 19N, in the RM of De Salaberry.
Officers from Steinbach and St-Pierre-Jolys responded. When police attempted to conduct a traffic stop, the vehicle fled and collided head-on with one of the marked police vehicles.
The driver of the stolen vehicle was arrested and taken to hospital as a precaution.
A search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of a loaded rifle, an imitation handgun and prescription drugs.
Kyle Enns, 30, of Grunthal has been charged on a number of counts including: assault with a weapon on a peace officer, dangerous driving causing bodily harm, possession of a firearm in a vehicle and several more charges. He was remanded into custody.
The officer involved in the collision was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
