For the last two weeks there has been a lot of construction just south of the Village of Elkhorn, on either side of PR 256.

The project is the construction of a long protective dike to prevent overland flooding of the village, when the creek located nearby overflows its banks, or in case of there is a blockage that can lead to flooding; as it has done in past year.

The work is being carried out by Tri-Wave Construction, with lots of heavy traffic and equipment in the area.

The village office has issued a notice to all residents by way of a mail-out, to be aware of the increased heavy traffic when walking or driving through the construction area; construction will be from 7:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. Residents were also advised that during the expected four to six week period there will be an increase in the noise level.

D.A.D.'s Repair, owned and operated by Denis Lachapple , is a heavy duty truck repair center located on the edge of the dike construction. The business will soon be moving its operations to Moosomin because of the work and also for other reasons.

The municipality is very happy to get this project started and completed soon, to reduce overland flooding hazards to the village. Past overland flooding in the village has been a great financial and emotional burden for the community. The protective dike will make the homeowners and businesses more secure and a better place to live.
