Presenting the 2024 Blair Koop Memorial Award are members of the Koop family (l-r) Mason, Colton and Georgia Koop, to award recipients Willow Hodson (Jr. Oil Capitals jersey) and coach Karla Robertson. The award is in recognition of Blair, who dedicated 10 years to Virden Minor Hockey as a valued coach, mentor and board member. The award is presented annually to co-recipients: a player who has demonstrated commitment, perseverance and personal growth; and a coach who played a role that player’s skill development and confidence that season.

In March the Blair Koop Memorial Award was presented to Willow Hodson and her coach Karla Robertson. Tracy Koop says of the award in memory of her late husband Blair, “I want to congratulate Willow and Karla and all the nominees for this award.”

In a Facebook post she states, “It’s truly an honour to read the nominations submitted and pass those on to the committee whom I entrust to make the very difficult decision of choosing just one submission.

“This award means so much to myself and the kids. Hockey is what we did as a family and where so many connections and friendships were made. There truly wasn’t an off-season for Blair as those friendships carried well into the following months and years.

“To the parents of the players, thank you. Thank you for your commitment and dedication to your kiddos. These players represent everything Blair valued as a coach. To the coaches, please keep doing what you do and mentoring our kiddos.”
