Fatal fire raged in town of Bowsman

A man has died in a fire near Swan River.

On Jan.11, at 8:30 a.m., Swan River RCMP responded to a report of a structure fire at a residence located on 4th Avenue in the community of Bowsman. Officers arrived on scene and observed heavy smoke coming from the residence and were advised by family members that the homeowner may still be inside. Firefighters arrived on scene and began extinguishing the fire, which allowed them to enter the residence where they located the homeowner. The 51-year-old male was removed from the residence and pronounced deceased on scene. No other injuries were reported and the cause of the fire remains under investigation. Swan River RCMP, along with the Office of the Fire Commissioner, Office of the Chief Medical Examiner and RCMP Forensic Identification Services continue to investigate.

Bowsman is a village located just 15 minutes north of Swan River, Manitoba.
