A life has been lost in the housefire in Barren Lands First Nation.
On Jan. 1, 2024, at approximately 5:15 p.m., RCMP received a report of a house fire in Barren Lands First Nation.
The house was fully engulfed and the fire truck was on scene. Several people were inside the home at the time of the fire. It was determined that one adult who was in the residence at the time of the fire was unaccounted for. All the others made it out safely.
The home was completely destroyed. The Office of the Fire Commissioner was notified. On January 2, 2024, RCMP officers attended the community and located a deceased person inside the home.
The MKO Crisis Response Team has been notified and will be attending the community to assist and support all those involved.
Thompson RCMP along with the Office of the Fire Commissioner and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, continue to investigate.
