Federal candidates running in two local constituencies

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau called a federal election on Sunday, Aug. 15. Election day is Monday, Sept. 20. Two federal ridings represent all of southwest Manitoba. Here are the candidates that are running in these ridings, at press time.

Brandon-Souris
Three candidates have been nominated in Brandon-Souris, Conservative Larry Maguire, Whitney Hodgins of the NDP, and Tylor Baer of the People's Party of Canada.

In 2019, Maguire won with 63.5 per cent of the vote, up 13.23 per cent from the previous election.

The NDP was second in Brandon-Souris in 2019 with 14.1 per cent of the vote, and the Liberals were third with 12.1 per cent of the vote.

Brandon Souris includes communities in southwest Manitoba, including Elkhorn, Virden, Reston, and Melita.

Dauphin-Swan River-Neepawa

There are three candidates in Dauphin-Swan River-Neepawa: Conservative Dan Mazier, Donnan McKenna of the People's Party of Canada, and Lori Falloon-Austin of the Maverick Party.

In 2019, Mazier won with 64.2 per cent of the vote, up 17.86 per cent from the previous election.

The NDP was second in Dauphin-Swan River-Neepawa in 2019 with 14.1 per cent of the vote, and the Liberals were third with 13.2 per cent of the vote.

Dauphin-Swan River-Neepawa covers southwest Manitoba north of the Trans-Canada Highway, including McAuley, Manson, Miniota and Kenton.

Elections Canada policy states “the nomination process for candidates closes on Monday, Aug.30, 2021, and a complete list of confirmed candidates will be available on Wednesday, September 1, 2021.”
