There were 339 active drilling rigs Thursday morning across Western Canada, down from 351 working at the close of last week, as activity has softened in Alberta.
There are 12 fewer rigs working in Alberta today compared to a week ago, four fewer in B.C., one less in Manitoba, and five more in Saskatchewan.
Overall, 55 per cent of the drilling fleet is active, down from 57 per cent last week. For the same week a year ago, 354 rigs were active (55 per cent active rate).
Crescent Point Energy Corp. had 29 active rigs Thursday morning, followed by Encana Corporation with 15.
Active rigs on the Rig Locator website are defined as rigs that are drilling, rigging up or moving. (Note: This data differs from the rig counts tracked by the Canadian Association of Oilwell Drilling Contractors, which bases its utilization rates on whether rigs are drilling, which it defines as spud to rig release, or down.)
