For the second time in a month a train derailment involving rail cars carrying liquid asphalt has occurred near Rockhaven. Saturday, Unity RCMP responded to a report of a derailment south of Rockhaven.

For the second time in a month a train derailment involving rail cars carrying liquid asphalt has occurred near Rockhaven.

Saturday, Unity RCMP responded to a report of a derailment south of Rockhaven. They report four cars were off the track leaking asphalt. RCMP say an excavator was on scene creating a berm to prevent further contamination.

No roads were blocked by the derailment and no waterways were affected by the spillage.

A similar incident July 19 didn’t result in any environmental damage, according to Cut Knife RCMP.

Police report that seven cars carrying liquid asphalt derailed at about 6 p.m. that day, but the cars remained upright and no contents were spilled.
