Getting into the swing of things

Providing instruction for youth and adults

Keith Friesen is a professional golfer from Brandon, Man. and is bringing his skills and expertise to clubs in the Westman area to provide instruction for youth and adult golfing enthusiasts.
Friesen is a credentialed golf instructor, although golf has not been his only line of work.
“I was a golf pro in the 1970’s in Winnipeg and then I decided I was going to go back to university,” says Friesen. “I worked in accounting in a partnership business in Toronto and then came back to work with the Liquor Commission as a Liquor inspector and was employed there for 17 years.”
“I wanted to get back into the golf business and was fortunate enough to meet Dave Scinocca and we were together for eleven years out at the Shilo Golf Course. From there I wanted to complete my PGA Certificate, so I hooked up with an organization in the United States and acquired my teaching certificate from them.”
Once Friesen retired from being a Liquor inspector, he started teaching golf lessons and has been to Russell, Hamiota, Miniota, Rapid City, Oak Lake, Souris and Reston.
Alayna Bailey of Oak Lake and Andrea Guthrie of Reston have both put a lot of energy and time into gathering people to come out and experience his well informed and educated golfing skills and tips.
“The main place that I teach out of is Mulligan’s Driving Range just west of Brandon,” said Friesen. “I go there pretty much every day because I have my regular clientele. There may only be one lesson a day and possibly three in the afternoon; it varies. I offer individual or group lessons ranging from two to six people at a time.”
Friesen will be out to Oak Lake on Sundays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays starting May 25 and to Reston on Monday evenings until June 13 providing helpful tips and techniques for those avid golfers getting ready for the greens.
“Last year was my busiest summer and I usually work with the younger groups because they like to be done their lessons by the end of June so they can enjoy their summer,” says Friesen.
Friesen has been teaching and providing golf lessons to all ages since 2006.
