In her first year in the novice women’s category, Rory Greenbank, who trains in Virden, was successful at the Skate Canada Challenge.

The Moosomin Skating Club representative finished 22nd overall at the competition, which ran Jan. 25-28 in Regina. The event featured skaters from across the country who qualified at their respective sectional events. There were more than 40 skaters in Greenbank’s division.

“For her to be half is definitely a goal that she has reached,” said Virden’s Patty Hole, who coaches her.

Greenbank performed a strong short program to place 19th. She was 24th in the free skate.

“She didn’t worry about all of the people going around doing triples … She just did her own things. We stuck to a plan. … She did what she needed to do,” said Hole, who noted that Greenbank’s strength is that she is a great competitor.
