Harding Fair shares their winning results

Harding Fair, held on July 21, was opened by Kennidy Routledge’s violin solo of O Canada, followed by greetings from municipal councillor Val Caldwell. Adele McLauchlin and daughter Lynn Gustofson brought a few words about Harding.

The work of the judges, many local volunteers and countless hours by the exhibitors in a wide range of classes made this an engaging fair day. Here’s the results: 

Miniature Horse

Judge Lloyd Mennie of Kemnay picked the 34” & U Champion: KD Blue Friday owned by Kim Dinwoodie of Portage; Reserve Champion, Eastside Acres Dixie owned by Deanna Spencer of Belmont.

34-38” Champion: Jem Velvet Vortex owned by Kim Dinwoodie and Reserve Champion, Fields of Blessing owned by Shannon Boreham, Virden.

Light Horse

Judge Laurie Renwick awarded Champion Pony to Alvesta Noelle owned by Marcia Carter, Kenton and Champion Light Horse was Myte Nice owned by Ken Grainger

MBRA had a great showing of 37-barrel racers and 31 pole benders.

Purebred Cattle

Feature Breed was the Angus. Champion Bull owned by Bar H Land & Cattle, Langenburg, Sask; Reserve was owned by KCH Cattle Co of Rapid City. Champion Female owned by Merit Cattle Co. Radville Sask; Reserve also owned by Merit Cattle Co.

Charolais - Champion Bull to C2 Charolais, LaRiviere; Reserve to Hidden Lake Stock Farms, Carberry. Champ Female to Madison Robertson, Neepawa; Reserve to Hidden Lake Stock Farms, Carberry.

Limousin – Champion Bull to Eden Meadows, Zehner, Sask; Reserve to Daimond T Limousin, Kenton.  Champion Female and Reserve honors went to Eden Meadows.

Mixed Breed – Champ Bull to Inc. Cattle Co., Saskatoon, Sask., Reserve to Maple Grove Gelbvieh, Napinka, Man.; Champion Female and Reserve Female to Sinnibar Sock Farms, Russell.

Simmental – Champ Bull to Austyn Peters, Rivers; Reserve to Big Sky Simmental, Rivers.  Champion Female and Reserve Female – Everett More, Virden.

Purebreds were judged by Bill Biglieni of Brandon. He gave the Ron Sangster Supreme Bull award to Inc. Cattle Company and Supreme Female to Merit Cattle Co. Both are now eligible to enter the championship class at Agribition.

Jackpot Heifer Class – 22 entries judged by Amanda Scott, Katie Falconer and Naomi Best awarded the Championship to Swindon Ranch, Alexander; Reserve to KCH Cattle Co.

Grains & Grasses – Judge Brian English awarded Best Sheaf to Robert Stevenson, Kenton for his oats.

Vegetables & Fruits - Ivey Greenhouse High Point winners were Amy Bennett, Harding and Richard Stevenson, Kenton.

Flowers – the Edna Sangster Most Points winner was Beatrice Janssens, Harding. Judge was Marilyn Brazeau

Cooking and Home Products – Judges Roberta Bailey and Kay Krisjanson had a busy time with all the entries this year. Cargill Special Most Points; 1st – Sara DeGagne, Dryden, Ont.  2nd – Lisa Gardner, Lenore, and 3rd – Leah Obach, Kenton. Judges’ Favorite Bread winner was Lisa Gardner and Judges’ Favorite Pie winner was Naomi Best, Kenton. Winnie Wolfe Memorial High Point in Pickling/Preserves 1st – Holly Draper, Lenore; 2nd – tied Candace Tolton, Kenton & Lisa Gardner, Lenore; 3rd to Mary Ann Stevenson, Kenton. In Junior Cooking the Lenore WI Special High Point to JoHanna Logan, Lenore.

Needlework & Homecrafts – Judge Penny Edwards, the Midwest Arts Council award for Best Quilt went Margaret Sangster.

Adult & Jr. Handicraft saw a lot of wonderful entries. Judges pick for best exhibit went to Grayson Williams, Hamiota.

Schoolwork –Most Points winners – 1st Myla McCahon, Surrey, B.C.; 2nd – Cole Hodgins, Lenore and tied for 3rd to Carrie Hodgins and Chase Hodgins, Lenore. Nova Cargill judged the schoolwork and handcrafts.
