Here’s what it feels like to win a $Million

A million-dollar win doesn't come along every day.

Tracy Peacock and David Scharff of Cromer picked up a large check on Tuesday, April 12. It was one of two MAXMILLIONS prizes awarded in Manitoba from the April 1 LOTTO MAX draw.

Talking to Tracy on Wednesday, she’s still not used to the idea. They’ve won a few dollars here and there, but “nothing like this” says Tracy.

The couple purchased the winning ticket at Virden’s Valleyview Co-op Gas Bar on 114-7th Avenue South and it was there they discovered the win.

When she checked the ticket, she hadn’t counted all the zeroes, but was still excited. “I thought I’d only won $10,000, but I was so excited,” says Tracy. The young clerk soon straightened her out. “When they told me it was a Million, I said, “I’ve gotta go get my husband.”

At first, David was reluctant to head into the store. “He thought I was pulling his leg.” But he did go in and he said, “Wow, this is good!” She laughs again, “We were so blasé about it.”

The staff at the gas station were excited about it though. “Those three boys behind the counter, they were just smiles from ear to ear.”

Tracy doesn’t see this changing their life too much. They have no plans to more or to build a new house, she says, “We just put it in the bank, we’re going to let it sit there and wait for a little while. Of course, we’re going to pay off our bills and the rest is ‘wait and see’.”

They do plan to travel to Las Vegas, weather depending and later on, “We’d already planned a trip to Hawaii with the kids.”

“You always dream of winning and how you’d feel,” she laughs but says, “it’s not at all how you’d feel,” adding, “It’s nice, it’s enjoyable.”

She’s happy to wait for a while before any big decisions are made.
