Oak Lake Community Hall was the setting for making history. Representatives from the parent organizations of the two largest businesses in Oak Lake presented money for the major renovation of the 30-year-old hall. Almost 30 people were in attendance.
Fusion Credit Union, represented by CEO Ron Hedley, and Tammy Roziere, long time employee and community volunteer, presented a cheque for $10,000.
Valleyview Co-op had previously presented a cheque for $5,000 to the R.M. of Sifton. Valleyview’s Oak Lake Manager Allyson Decroliere and directors Nicole Smith, Dennis Black and Rick Kenderdine were present.
We do not have a lot of big businesses in Oak Lake so it was gratifying that the parent organization of both Fusion Credit Union and Valleyview Co-op have confidence in their Oak Lake businesses and are willing to donate to the hall project, helping to sustain our rural community. Sincere appreciation to each organization.
The addition onto the north side of the hall, which will house washrooms accessible from the outside and inside, storage and janitor rooms as well as a Community Meeting Room is progressing very well - painting, flooring, lighting, and washroom fixtures. Our immediate goal is to begin stripping the toilets and sinks out of the old men's and ladies’ washrooms, emptying the kitchen cupboards then removing all the old cupboards and sinks - actually removing everything. The Oak Lake Lions have volunteered to help. You, too, can be a part of this demolition. Many hands make light work.
Phase 3 which is the construction of the Commercial Community Kitchen begins shortly with Roger Branum Construction as the contractor. If you have been thinking about donating, now is the time. Cheques can be made out to R.M. of Sifton. A tax receipt will be provided.
This renovation has been a very large undertaking but is very necessary to keep the Community Hall open. By abiding with all current provincial regulations, our local user groups and caterers will appreciate the new kitchen. Private entrepreneurs will be able to rent the facility to make food products that can be sold in retail stores.
