Households welcomed to Miniota, volunteers honoured

Rural Manitoba is showing growth in the former Miniota municipality, now part of Prairie View Municipality.

A wonderful community evening, post pandemic, to welcome newcomers and present awards was held on April 27 at the Miniota Community Hall. This event, sponsored by the Miniota Welcome Committee and Prairie View Municipality, had not been held since April of 2019, and so a total of 26 new households – families and individuals - now living at Arrow River, Beulah and Miniota were welcomed to Ward 1 of the municipality.

Following a delicious potluck supper, MC Mac Lelond and Linda Clark, Reeve welcomed the newcomers, and as well Linda brought greetings to everyone.

Cherilynn Pizzey spoke on behalf of the Clark family prior to the presentation of this year’s volunteer recipients for the Bill Clark Memorial Volunteer Awards. Trevor Clark and Cherilynn presented the certificates to the recipients. Janelle Koroscil and Sherry McKee presented to Beulah’s recipients, Fred and Elaine Kestirke. David Lawrence spoke of Crandall’s recipient, Doreen Angus. Hazel Wall spoke to Isabella’s recipients Jim and Karen Lawn and Ron and Glenda Lawn and as well Hazel spoke on behalf of the Isabella community and the Miniota United Church with Trudy Watters representing the church for their nomination of Linda Clark. Congratulations and appreciation was expressed to the nominees for 2022.

Prairie View Councillors Charles Bertram, Delbert Cole, David Howard and Darcy Oliver presented years of service awards to members of the Miniota Fire Department. For 2020: Sheldon Doole – 15 years, Curtis Gardham – 10 years. For 2021: Brian Oliver - 40 years, Trevor Clark – 20 years, Dustin Hill – 5 Years, Ted Oliver – 5 years, Duncan Lelond – 5 years. For 2022: Nick Young – 30 years, Ryan Brown – 15 years, and Ben Howard – 10 years. Chief Nick Young presented Exemplary Service Awards to Darcy Oliver and Darryl Brown.

Reeve Linda Clark gave closing remarks for the evening, once again welcoming the newcomers, acknowledging the volunteer recipients and the members of the Miniota Fire Department for their commitment to the citizens. Visiting concluded the evening.
