Melita held its annual garage sale on June 2

For all those holding onto unwanted items since last year’s garage sale, Saturday, June 2 was the day when the entire town of Melita opened the garage doors to all those interested in buying some of their stuff. While the day was calling for some sunshine, nature had other plans with the storm starting somewhere in the middle of the evening and carrying on throughout the day.

However the rain didn’t stop people from attending the annual garage sale said Brittany Walker, of the Antler River Recreational District. “They are usually out of peoples garages if they have garages, so it didn’t really affect it that much. There were a lot of people around. I think everyone said it was good and lot of stuff was sold.”

Walker was also one of the organizers for the garage sale. “We’ve had them for years on the same date, for a long time, I wouldn’t even know how long. People have to register with us. In May we put a poster up saying we’re taking registrations. At the end of May, we make a map up of everyone who has registered.”

Though the turnout of people at the garage sale was good, it can vary from year to year based on how much stuff people have to sell at the time. “The numbers were down for the amount of yards in the sale, but I think everyone still did well. It would have been a lot better without the rain, but we need the rain so you can’t really complain about that,” added Walker.
