Const. Jeff Bartsch, left, of the Weyburn Police Service, met up with American long-distance runner Pete Kostelnick at a roadside turnout just before coming into Weyburn, along with Const. Kalin Wiebe, who was then able to provide a police escort into the city along the extremely busy Highway 39.

Kostelnick is on a 5,300-mile journey from Kenai, Alaska, to Key West, Florida, and he reached the halfway point of his journey the day before, at Wilcox.

He runs roughly 85 km a day, and is aiming to reach Key West by the first week of November.

Two years ago, he attempted a world record for running across the United States.
