Juried art show coming up in Kenton

Hamiota Mid-West Art Club is hosting the 45th Annual Westman Juried Art Show at Kenton Community Hall on Sunday afternoon, April 28.

The Hamiota Mid-West Art Club is hosting the 45th Annual Westman Juried Art Show at Kenton Community Hall on Sunday afternoon, April 28.

Last year Virden’s Georgia Abel received a red ribbon in the Youth category (14-19 years) and her work was among a half- dozen local artists to be selected for the 44th Arts West Travelling Gallery.

The Juried Art Show provides amateur and emerging artists a venue for professional critique and an opportunity to present their work to the general public.

Two adjudicators will make selections:

Leona Herzog of Winnipeg is the director/curator of the Buhler Gallery at St. Boniface Hospital and previously worked at Manitoba Hydro where she established their impressive art collection.

Ben Davis has taught at Brandon University where he is Adjunct Professor in the Department of Visual and Aboriginal Art. His work resides in collections in Canada, England, USA, Botswana and Australia, including a recent acquisition by the Manitoba Government for their Provincial Art Collection.

Awards include: Travelling Gallery selection, Honourable Mentions, People's Choice, Youth, Best In Show and Theme categories.  The jurors select 20 works to form a Travelling Gallery to be viewed in communities throughout Westman during the year.
