Miniota News By Linda Clark

A warm welcome to Robert and Kathy Boucher who have moved from Hudson Bay SK to take up residence in their new home (the former Leary/Campbell home). We hope you are enjoying your new home and community.

Jon, Deanna, Ashten and Addison Hawtin travelled to Glendive Montana to visit Peyton and attend his college banquet.

The Miniota UCW for many years has collected used stamps and mailed them to the Leprosy Mission as one of our projects. We appreciate the many hours Ruby Weber has given to this in preparing the stamps and mailing them away. Although Ruby is retiring, we are continuing and your stamps can be left at the United Church. Please remember that at least a quarter inch of envelope must remain around the stamp.

As I write this, the sun is shining and the temperatures are much milder. Students are enjoying their PD Day at home and it is great to hear their voices out playing road hockey and sliding on the hills. Good luck to our high school students who are writing their postponed exams from last week due to storms and buses not running. Ah Manitoba winter!

This quote from Nanes Hoffman, “May you see the humanity in each person you meet. May you listen to understand. May you spend time each day taking care of yourself like someone you love. May you play your favorite song way too loud and may you sing every word. May your heart be kind and true.”

Wishing everyone a very Happy Valentine’s Day! A day to share your love and kindness with family and friends!

Evergreen Place By Helen Martens

February is the month of love - a time for Valentines Day and remembering love - emphasizing the importance of love in our lives. This is the third year Valentines Day comes amid the pandemic which has prevented many from being in close connection with their loved ones. The 14th is just around the corner so get on it, however humble and from-the-heart or elaborate your plan may be for loved ones. A quote by H. Jackson Brown Jr. "Love is when the other person's happiness is more important than your own."

We have two birthdays in February here at Evergreen, Debbie Kish and Chris Leach. The birthstone for February is Amethyst. The amethyst is a violet variety of Quartz. It symbolizes bravery and strength. It is said it can also help you relax and keep you sharp in stressful situations. It has physical healing properties, including; enhancing the immune system, improving skin appearance, promoting digestive health and reducing headaches. It blocks negative, stressful energies and stimulates serenity of the mind. It is often known as the stone of peace. There you have it. I wish you, Debbie and Chris and anyone else who has a February birthday, an Amethyst type of birthday!

Harold and Lynda Spring went to Pipestone on the 7th to visit their daughter Candace. They enjoyed a Yahtzee time together.

The Common Room here at Evergreen, or better known as our coffee room is a buzzin' every day. Though we practice social distancing, our room fills up most every morning and afternoon. You can get the news here for those who are not keen on watching it on TV. Some drink coffee. Some drink tea. Abraham Lincoln said, and I quote, "If there is coffee, please bring me some tea. but if there is tea, please bring me some coffee."

That sounds like our coffee room. Some people talk, some listen. Some are always ready to refill your cup and make a new pot of coffee. It is adorable when they ask you if you want coffee. As if there's more than one answer to that. Sometimes cake or some pastry appears to share, and recipes are discussed. Some might sit and knit. Always there is much laughter and just plain old fun.

Cassandra Clare said, "As long as there is coffee in the world, how bad can things be?"

Enough coffee banter! To all, have a good weekend, share the love. My love to you.

Quote for the Day: "Love is like a friendship caught on fire. As love grows older, our hearts mature and our love becomes as coal, deep burning and unquenchable." -Bruce Lee

When I am in the WSS office, the procedure is that the outside door will be locked, please knock and I will come to the door. Please wear a mask.

Due to the closure of the WSS office to the public, the scheduled foot clinic on Jan. 28 was cancelled. The WSS Social Club was not held in January and is postponed for now.

Last week, the province it is taking cautious steps to reducing health orders with the goal of being restriction free by Spring. Therefore, new Covid public health orders came into effect on Tuesday, Feb. 8 and will remain in place until Feb. 22.

Princess Lodge By Janice Simpson

Ray, Kim and Jacey Everett and Jesse of Brandon visited with Donna Everett and Ethel Bowles last weekend. It was a belated birthday get together.

Sympathy is extended to Diane and John Janzen on the passing of John’s sister Sara Mitchell.

Birthdays for February are Len Collier and Joyce Stowe. A big bouquet to the kind person from the lodge who is helping residents across the icy streets. Your patience and kindness are much appreciated.

“Oh the weather outside is frightful, but the fire is so delightful; since we have no place to go, let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.”

Happy Valentine’s Day. Hope everyone gets a lot of flowers and chocolates from their sweetie.
