Comox B.C. - Sarah Keown is an Army Cadet with 2528 XII Manitoba Dragoons Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps in Virden, and is now participating in the training centre in Comox, B.C.

For the past five years Sarah, now 16, has loved being in cadets. She shows an interest in the fun activities and opportunities the Canadian Cadet Program has offered.

One of her favourites is the Field Training Exercises where cadets learn different outdoor survival skills. Sarah also has a passion for music which led her to HMCS Quadra Cadet Training Centre in Comox, British Columbia, to teach music to cadets in the band course.

When asked what she liked most about being a music instructor Keown said, "I enjoy watching the course cadets succeed and flourish.”

While at HMCS Quadra CTC Keown is also learning leadership and communication skills which she will use back in her home corps.

One of the activities she was most excited for this summer was attending a musical performance in Nanaimo B.C. Sarah can’t wait to make amazing memories with her fellow staff and peers this summer.

“I’m grateful for all the exciting things to come this summer!” She said.

The Canadian Cadet Program is free to all youth aged 12-18. For more information, please visit their website at www.canada.ca/cadets.
