Man arrested for shooting another driver on Yellowquill Road

A person was injured in their vehicle after another driver shot at them.

On March 20, Manitoba First Nation Police Service (MFNPS) issued a news release in regard to a shooting incident on Long Plain First Nation that occurred a day earlier, on March 19.

A driver was a victim of a shooting from another vehicle. In the company of a passenger they were travelling west on Yellowquill Trail when they drove past a dark colored truck travelling east. Occupants from the truck shot at the victim and passenger as they drove past.

The victim sustained injuries and was airlifted to the Health Science Center in Winnipeg for medical treatment.

On Thursday, March 23, MFNP Officers from Long Plain Detachment attended to a residence in Portage La Prairie and made an arrest.

Theron MEECHES, 28, of Long Plain First Nation has been arrested and is charged with the following offences:

• Discharge firearm with intent x 2

• Aggravated assault

• Unauthorized possession of a firearm

• Possession of firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized

• Unauthorized possession in a motor vehicle

MEECHES will be appearing in Provincial Court on March 24, 2023 in Portage La Prairie.

This investigation is still ongoing.
