A man is dead, another wounded and a woman has overdosed in what appears to be a single incident. 


Waywayseecappo Detachment – Police Update:On the early morning hours of June 1, 2022, Manitoba First Nations Police Officers (MFNPS) received a report of shots fired at a residence in the community. MFNPS Officers attended the area of the residence, where a single gunshot was heard in the immediate area.A second call was received from the residence advising that one male was shot, and another female had overdosed on pills. MFNPS officers attended to the house and located the injured male subject and unconscious female. Both subjects were provided medical assistance as Officers continued to investigate, as the whereabouts of the suspect was still not known at the time. 
MFNPS Officers along with the MFNPS Canine Unit proceeded to search for the suspect. The deceased was located a short distance from the scene with what is believed to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.The injured male and female were transported to the hospital in stable condition. MFNPS is actively investigating this matter and requesting the public’s assistance for information on this incident.Waywayseecappo First Nation reserve is located about 35 minutes north of Birtle. According to Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada about 2800 people are registered with the reserve. About 1600 live within the community that lies 35 minutes north and east of Birtle.

Gimli RCMP respond to skydiving fatality: On June 4, 2022, at approximately 7:25 pm, Gimli RCMP received a report that there had been a parachuting incident at the Gimli Industrial Park. When officers arrived on scene, a 53-year-old woman from Winnipeg was unresponsive on the ground receiving medical attention from civilians on scene. An RCMP officer immediately began to assist. Within minutes, Emergency Medical Services was on scene and took over care of the woman. She was pronounced deceased on scene.Initial investigation has determined that the female was a very experienced skydiver who was wearing all the appropriate safety gear. When she jumped from the plane, her parachute appeared to open at the proper altitude, but she entered into a spin and collided with the ground.There were no issues with the aircraft, and three other people were in the plane at the time of the jump.
The investigation continues.


Yellowhead RCMP investigate fatal two-vehicle collision: On June 6, 2022, at approximately 7:00 am, Yellowhead RCMP responded to a two-vehicle collision on Highway 10, approximately 6 km south of Erickson, Manitoba. A vehicle going south collided with a vehicle going north. The driver and sole occupant of the northbound vehicle, a 53-year-old male from Onanole, was pronounced deceased at the scene.The driver and sole occupant of the southbound vehicle, a 45-year-old male from Onanole, was taken to hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries.Yellowhead RCMP along with a Forensic Collision Reconstructionist, continue to investigate.

 
St-Pierre-Jolys RCMP respond to school safety threat:  On June 3, 2022, at 1:50 pm, St-Pierre-Jolys RCMP received a report of a note found at École/Collège Régional Gabrielle-Roy in Ile-des-Chenes with comments that were construed as being threatening in nature. The threat indicated there could be an incident that may occur at the high school on June 6.Over the course of the weekend, officers worked diligently to discover who was behind the threat. Working with the Division Scolaire Franco-Manitobaine (DSFM), a safety plan was put in to place for the arrival of staff and students on June 6.On that morning, officers from St-Pierre-Jolys, along with our Police Dog Services unit, attended to the high school to conduct a search of the property prior to the arrival of staff and students. Once the property was secured, they were allowed to enter.The investigation led to the Monday morning arrest of a 17-year-old male, from southeastern Manitoba, for Uttering Threats. He has been released from police custody and will appear in court scheduled August 12, 2022, in St-Pierre-Jolys.St-Pierre-Jolys RCMP continue to investigate.
