WINNIPEG – Manitoba’s Nurses have elected Darlene Jackson as President-Elect of the Manitoba Nurses Union for a two-year term beginning on July 1, President Sandi Mowat announced today. Jackson was elected on the final day of MNU’s AGM.
“I’d like to congratulate Darlene for running a successful campaign to become the next President for Manitoba’s Nurses. Darlene is a veteran leader in our union, whose many years of experience as an activist have her well prepared for her new role” said Mowat. “I also want to thank all of the candidates for putting their name forward for election. Their campaigns, hard work and continued dedication to Manitoba’s nurses are vital to our success as a democratic organization.”
Darlene Jackson has served as Secretary-Treasurer of the Manitoba Nurses Union for the past two years, and has over two decades of experience serving as President of her worksite located in The Pas. She has also served on MNU’s Provincial Collective Bargaining Committee as the representative for the north, participating in 9 rounds of bargaining and serving as vice-chairperson of the PCBC.
“I’d like to thank Manitoba’s nurses for putting their trust in me to serve as their President, and also Sandi Mowat for 10 incredible years of service to our members and Manitoba’s patients,” said Jackson. “I will work every day to put patient care at the top of our agenda and stand up to the ongoing cuts and changes happening across our province.”
The election results were announced following a Rally for Safe Patient Care at the Manitoba Legislature where hundreds of nurses, health care professionals and concerned Manitobans spoke out against continued cuts and changes to health care.
MNU represents over 12,000 nurses of all designations across Manitoba.
