McPhee’s reception draws a crowd

A local teacher's art in combination with Ukulele musicians are the attractions at Arts Mosaic's reception March 8.

Arts Mosaic’s artist’s reception held in the Station gallery Friday, March 8, featured the works of Virden artist Cody McPhee. Over 55 people attended to enjoy McPhee’s art which included three mediums of expression - pencil, acrylic and oil on canvas.

Featured entertainment was Virden Ukulele Club.

Under the leadership of former Reston band teacher Michelle Gervin, the club started in the fall of 2019, enjoying a brief few months before it shut down in March 2020. But by 2022 the musicians had regathered and began playing together again.

Virden Collegiate band teacher Tyra Zander is part of the group. She says, ““We play lots of different genres - currently we are in a Beatles faze playing Stand By Me, Octopus Garden and so much more.” A recently featured song was “Brown Eyed Girl.”

The musicians practice at the VJH music room Tuesday evenings from 7 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.

“Bring your own ukulele and come and jam with us! We are always looking for more people to join us.”

The Ukulele Club will perform at events. Contact Michelle Gervin for more information.
