The Deloraine Royals had a tough week losing both games in a home and home series with Hartney.

Tuesday, June 26: The visiting Royals dropped a 5-3 decision to the Hoppers. Randy Loucks was the losing pitcher giving up 5 runs, 2 of which were unearned in 4 innings. Ryan Crepeele had a home run and double, and Marc Edwards a solo home run for Deloraine. Tyson Holder and Brent Kirkup had 2 hits each for Hartney. Jesse Skelton was the winning pitcher.

Thurs., June 28: Finn Druwe hit a tworun home run in the 7th to force extra extra innings then added a two-run double in the 10th inning in Hartney’s 12-7 victory.

Jeff Edwards pitched 9 2/3 innings and only a bad hop base hit off the first base kept him from completing the game with it still tied. Mitch Olson had two home runs and a single and drove in 6 of the Royals’ 7 runs. Mark Derlago got the win with 4 scoreless innings of relief.

Last week I asked names of two local athletes that skated with some Winnipeg Jets in June. Justin Lee from Waskada was one of 12 defencemen at the Winnipeg Jets Development Camp. The camp had all of the Jets 2018 draft pick as part of the team’s top prospects.

The other local athlete skated alongside of Mark Scheifele in a scrimmage recently. Details are sketchy but Matt Palmer might have set up Scheifele for a game-tying goal. Matt is considered a long shot in cracking the roster this season. The next generation of Palmers were able to get Mark’s and Dad’s autograph after the game.

This week asks the name of a headliner at the Dauphin Country Fest and Bobby Orr’s defence partner.
