The cozy scene of a country church - like this one - is part of Christmas ceramic decor, but the community of Isabella has a real-life country church and this Christmas Eve 2023, it was once again lit up and joyful music could be heard.

Miniota News

Deepest sympathy is extended to the many Stamford and Bowles nieces and nephews of Lily Bowles who died on Dec. 21 at the Elkwood Manor at Elkhorn.  Lily was 104 years of age. Lily was a wonderful lady who independently maintained her home and yard until the age of 98.

Sympathy is also extended to Barry and Althea Asselstine and Lynn and Marlene Amy, as well as to their sister Rhonda in Alberta and their families on the death of their mother and grandmother, Dorothea Amy who died on Dec. 24 at Morley House, Shoal Lake.  Dorothea was 101 years and had been a resident at Parkissimo Lodge for several years. Sympathy is also extended to Dorothea’s sister Julia Pierce and her family.

Word has been received of the death of Dennis Chartier on Dec. 21 at Coronation Alta.  Sympathy is extended to his siblings Bernadette McDougall, Pat Edgerton, Aline (Charles) Deschambault, Madeline (Terry Stonehouse) and Ron and Cindy Chartier and their families.

Once again this Christmas the Miniota United Church Sunday School committee filled and delivered several hampers throughout Ward 1. Recipients expressed deep gratitude for such a wonderful gift and for this act of kindness from the committee. All who donate, know that your gifts and time were acknowledged with appreciation.

Christmas Eve services were held at both the United and Anglican churches, with community members and their families and guests gathering to fill the sanctuaries.

Many families enjoyed the Miniota rink and hall for their family Christmas gatherings. Due to the warm weather and the skating ice not ready, they participated in curling.

Power skating is underway once again this winter at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday mornings at our rink under the leadership of Brad Cole and his helpers. A breakfast program is provided following, for the skaters.

Holy Trinity Anglican Church and the Miniota United Church congregations will begin a trial period of shared ministry/worship beginning on Sunday, Jan. 7 at 11:30 a.m. in the sanctuary of the United Church under the leadership of Rev. Sally Carter. All are welcome to attend.

A new year – 2024 - is upon us! May this new year be kind and gentle to all our readers – near and far.

“It may be time to put away the Christmas decorations, but DO NOT put away your Christmas Spirit. Keep it all year!”  Charlie Brown

Isabella News

Our annual Christmas Eve service was held in our Isabella Community church under the leadership of Hazel Wall. A music solo as well as accompaniment for the hymns was provided by Jessica Heise. Those who attended were appreciative of the Christmas décor provided by Angie Heise. It is always a good feeling to come home to our community church and to see the beautiful stained glass windows shine as Silent Night is sung by candlelight.
