Elsbeth (Elly) Priestley competed in the Regina Open Highland Dance competition in Regina on March 5. She was accompanied by her dance friends Scotlyn Chadney and Dakota May, also from the Virden area.

Dance teacher Shona McHarg says, “Elly’s hard work paid off. She completed all dances and won the overall aggregate award for her Beginner category... her first ever trophy.”

Elsbeth has been dancing for approximately five years, taking lessons from McHarg who operates McHarg School of Highland Dance, out of Brandon.

Throughout the pandemic Elly has been continuing lessons and practicing diligently. Previously, her last competition was almost two years ago.

This year, her dance teacher says, “Elly was determined to win the trophy.  She set a goal and got the job done.”

Elly, Scotlyn and Dakota are excited to attend another competition this weekend in Winnipeg on March 19. Mcharg says, “They will be attending more competitions throughout the spring months and attending ScotDance Canada Championship Series in Regina in early July.”
