The Isabella community is saddened with the news of the death of Anne Ariss, a former resident of Isabella when she and her husband George farmed and raised their children here in the 1940-1950’s. They then moved to the Crandall area purchasing a farm there. Anne had a wonderful long life reaching 102 years this past July, and was independent until just recently when she moved to the Valleyview Care Centre in Brandon. Anne loved to come home to Isabella and Crandall for suppers, brunches, reunions and church services and visit with her many friends.  Our deepest sympathy is extended to her children, Gerry, Edith, Hazel and Mike, Carol and their families. Interment will take place at the Crandall cemetery beside her husband George and son Donnie.

The Isabella community is gearing up for a craft sale and a roast beef supper in the near future.  On June 11, supper will be served in Isabella Community Hall.

The Miniota Anglican and United Church Women hosted a World Day of Prayer service, which had been prepared by the women in Taiwan, in the United Church on Friday, March 3. Kelly Tataryn as our guest speaker showed his pictures and told stories of his bike travels through Viet Nam and other countries close to Taiwan from the fall of 2019 until March of 2020. So interesting!

The Bruiskies U18 Female Hockey team played their provincials in Elkhorn this past weekend and were victorious in attaining gold medals and the banner for Rural A Female Provincial Champions. Miniota girls on this team are Baylie Bryant, Monelle Bryant and Brooke Thompson and coaches Randy Bryant and Brad Thompson. Congratulations to the team, coaches and parents on a most successful season!

The Ninth Annual Miniota Fire Department Ice Fishing Derby at Hooper’s Lake was held this past Sunday. Now, despite no fish being caught, the beautiful weather made for a great day. Registration was at an all-time high with 171 fishermen registered, which broke the past record of 147. Prizes all donated by businesses and individuals, including an ice auger (won by Maxine Eshapee) and fishing shack (winner Kayden Nolan),  were awarded through a draw system and the lucky winner of the 50/50  was Kerrie Gurr of Miniota, taking home $1526. The concession booth, manned by the Miniota Daycare, cooked hamburgers and hot-dogs along with hot chocolate and iced tea. A great day for all and a wonderful fundraiser for the fire department.
