Manitou RCMP responded to an assault at a residence in Somerset when a report came in at 1:25 in the afternoon on Monday, Aug. 28. A suspect had broken into a home and used bear spray and a chainsaw to assault a male.
Immediately officers attended and located the victim, a 36-year-old male, injured. The suspect, who was known to the victim, had fled the scene. The victim was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
A short time later officers located the suspect and he was arrested without incident. A mini electric chainsaw was recovered and seized by police.
Pembina Valley RCMP continue to investigate.
Somerset, with a population of about 400, is a village located one hour and a half southeast of Brandon.
