The R.M. of Pipestone Dance Club performed a powerful year-end recital with four different groups performing a total of twelve dances. The group of enthusiastic and energetic young performers brought their talents to the RES Centre in Reston, Man. on Saturday March 19.

Throughout the year the dance students from the Reston, Sinclair, Melita and Pipestone area attended the studio for lessons once a week and this year the dance club had 32 dancers ranging from ages three to 12.

Jasmine Hamel is the dance instructor for this large group of performers and has been part of the R.M. of Pipestone Dance Club for 10 years. Jasmine started dancing when she was three years old and ventured away from the community to further her dancing career by joining a competitive dance club in Weyburn, Sask.

“After attending many dance conventions and competitions, I came back to Reston for my final year of dance before graduating in 2018,” says Hamel. “Along with dance and school I also teach piano lessons in Brandon and am very excited to continue instructing for the dance club for many years to come.”

Jasmine is a full time university student in her third year of studies in education at Brandon University. “I love my busy schedule and wouldn’t change it for anything,” adds Hamel.

The dancers usually attend Brandon and Virden Festival of the Arts however when Brandon decided to cancel their festival, the performers were very excited to present their talented skills in Virden on March 16 with Group 3 /4 scoring an 86 in Tap, an 88 in Hip Hop and an 89 in Jazz. Group 5 scored an 85 in Lyrical, 85 in Tap, 89 in Hip Hop and a 90 in Jazz. “I definitely foresee the club attending more festivals and competitions in the future,” says Hamel.

The R.M. of Pipestone Dance Club is located in Reston, operated as a non-profit, board run club.
