Police answer arguments, anxiety and machete wielding kid

Two weeks of law enforcement between Dec.19 to Jan.1 kept Westman RCMP very busy with some serious offenses.

For the week of Dec.19 to Dec. 25, the Westman RCMP dealt with 41 police occurrences.

Dec. 19 – RCMP were called to two separate sexual assaults. The investigations are ongoing.

Dec. 20 – RCMP received a call from an individual in Melita asking that police destroy his ferrets. It was reported that he had several hundred of them. Police obtained relevant information and passed it along to animal protection services.

Dec. 20 – RCMP were called to Sioux Valley because two gunshots were heard. Police made several patrols and inquiries however did not determine the origin of the gunshots. No further calls were received in relation to this one.

Dec. 20 – RCMP were called to Virden for an adult female causing a disturbance in an ambulance. The female advised that she didn’t feel safe. Police attended and learned that the female now felt safe.

Dec. 21 – RCMP received a call in Sioux Valley of a youth male damaging the inside of a residence with a machete. Subsequent to investigation, the male was arrested for Mischief and Uttering Threats. He was released with a future Court date on the condition that he have no contact with the other occupant of the residence.

Dec. 22 – RCMP received a call in Sioux Valley of an adult male arguing with people inside a residence. He departed prior to police arrival.

Dec. 23 – RCMP were called to Sioux Valley for an assault involving a knife. Subsequent to investigation, a 29-year-old male was charged with assault with a weapon, and for two counts of failing to comply with a release order. The victim sustained a minor hand injury.

Dec. 23 – RCMP were called to Sioux Valley for a vehicle that drove into the ditch. Subsequent to investigation, police learned that the vehicle driver did not have a driver’s licence. The vehicle itself was also unregistered. In total, four tickets were issued.

Dec. 23 – An intoxicated female attended the Virden detachment at approximately 11:24 p.m. She said she was from B.C and that she was planning on walking on the highway. She was arrested under the Intoxicated Persons Detention ACT as the on duty RCMP member feared for her safety. She was also too intoxicated to care for herself. She was released the following morning when sober.

Westman RCMP also responded to the following:

  • Two Traffic collisions
  • Four erratic driving calls
  • Two disturbance calls

 

For the week of Dec. 26 - January 1st, the Westman RCMP dealt with 39 police occurrences.

Dec. 27 – RCMP received a call in Sioux Valley from an intoxicated person who was worried about his uncle because he abruptly ended a phone call. Police ensured the uncle was safe. When the caller was updated, he didn’t remember why he called.

Dec. 28 – RCMP received a report of a Fraud that occurred online in the RM of Sifton. The victim reported that $35,000.00 was sent/lost. Investigation is ongoing.

 Dec. 31 – RCMP responded to a call of a male who was armed with a knife threatening residents at a home in Sioux Valley. A 42-year-old male suspect was identified however he left the residence prior to police arrival. The suspect was located driving his vehicle however he wouldn’t stop for police. He ran into a residence where he barricaded himself inside. The Emergency Response Team attended and were able to safely arrest the suspect. The 42-year-old male has been charged with six counts of failing to comply with a release order, assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and for resist/obstruct a peace officer. He was remanded into custody.

Westman RCMP also responded to the following:

  • One traffic collision
  • One breach of peace call
  • Two calls under the Mental Health ACT
  • Two suspicious person calls

Seven traffic enforcement actions, and four curfew checks were undertaken during this reporting period.
