Police called to reports of assault

Westman RCMP service report for March 17 – March 23

During this week Westman RCMP received a total of 55 calls for service. Of the 55, 15 were traffic related including three for operating a motor vehicle while impaired (alcohol)/over 80mg%, three for failing to comply with an order, three mischief damage to property, two false alarms, and one aggravated assault file.

On March 21, RCMP were dispatched to a report of assault in the town of Virden. Members attended and located an individual who was in possession of cocaine and a stolen credit card. The male was remanded into custody and will appear in court in April for two charges: possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine and for theft, forgery, and misuse of a credit card.

On March 22, RCMP were called for an assault in Sioux Valley Dakota Nation. EMS transported the victim to hospital and one female was remanded into custody and charged with one count of aggravated assault. She will appear in court in April.

During a routine traffic patrol being conducted in Virden and in the RM Wallace-Woodworth, RCMP observed a vehicle speeding, travelling at 128km/hr in a 100km/hr zone. RCMP conducted a traffic stop with the vehicle and the driver was issued a traffic offence notice which carries a fine of $416.

In another routine traffic patrol in Cromer, RCMP observed a vehicle speeding, travelling at 113km/hr in a 90km/hr zone. Police conducted a traffic stop with the vehicle and the driver was issued a traffic offence notice which carries a fine of $351.
