Police investigate assaults and historical sexual assault

RCMP investigate assaults

During the week of Feb. 28 to Mar. 6, the Westman RCMP dealt with 58 police activities and were dispatched to the following locations: 

Mar. 1 – Melita for a report of a domestic assault. After investigation, a 31-year-old male was arrested for assault causing bodily harm, and for failing to comply with a release order. He was remanded into custody. 

Mar. 1 – RM of Wallace-Woodworth for a report of a domestic assault. After investigation, a 31-year-old male was arrested for assault with a weapon, mischief, and disobeying a Court order. He was released by the Courts the following morning; he will be making subsequent Court appearances. 

Mar. 2 –RM of Pipestone for a report of a break and enter that occurred at a business. Two laptops and a pressure washer were among the items that were stolen. The investigation is ongoing. 

Mar. 3 – RCMP received a report of a historical sexual assault that occurred almost 40 years ago. An investigation has been initiated and is ongoing. 

Mar. 3 – RCMP received a report from an intoxicated female reporting her wallet was stolen. The person she accused of stealing the wallet was her daughter who resides at the residence with her. There was no evidence to substantiate that a theft occurred. 

Mar. 4 – Highway 1 near Elkhorn for a report of a collision involving two tractor-trailers. A 23-year-old male was pronounced dead at the scene. The investigation is ongoing. 

RCMP also responded to six other traffic collisions, eight mental health related calls, and five false alarms.
