Poole is versatile for Manitoba baseball squad

This summer McAuley’s Darbi Poole once again competed against some of the best female baseball players in the country.

Darbi Poole, daughter of Dana and Robin Poole suited up for Manitoba at the Women’s Invitational Championships, which were held July 27-30 in Halifax and Upper Sackville, N.S. Manitoba finished eighth.

“I enjoyed getting back on the field again getting the opportunity to compete with some of the best women in the country,” Poole said.

This was her second time competing for Team Manitoba at the senior women’s championships. Poole has also worn a Team Manitoba baseball uniform at the U21 and U16 level. She was a versatile player for the Keystone Province’s senior women’s team this summer.

“Darbi is extremely athletic and can play both offensively and defensively,” head coach Jeremy Culleton said. “She has the ability to play both infield and outfield to a high degree, which means we can round out our lineup to a greater degree.”

In the winter, Poole displays her athleticism on the ice. She plays for Nebraska’s Midland University women’s hockey team. What does she enjoy about playing baseball?

“There's a feeling when you get a good hit or make a good play that keeps me playing along with all the new people you meet from other teams,” Poole said.

During her time playing baseball, Poole has appreciated the encouragement provided by her family.

“My family has been my biggest supporters, whether it's driving to practices and games or practicing in the backyard,” she said.

Horizon Senff

Among the other members of Manitoba’s senior women’s team this summer was Horizon Senff. The Winnipeg product is the daughter of Gerri and former Virden resident Joey Senff, whose parents are Bob and Maureen Senff. Horizon Senff played in the outfield for Team Manitoba and also suits up for the University of Regina women’s softball team.
“We do not have another player that tracks fly balls as well as Horizon,” Culleton said.
