Weapons charges applied to a youth carrying bear spray and more in city sports arena.
On February 3, 2024, at approximately 8:20 pm, RCMP responded to an assault at Stride Place Arena in Portage la Prairie.
It was reported that an altercation occurred between several youth and bear spray was used. There were no reported injuries, however a number of spectators had to leave the arena due to the contamination of the area.
When officers arrived two males were arrested but were later released with no charges.
Further investigation led officers to identify a suspect and he was arrested on Feb. 5, 2024.
A 14-year-old boy is facing charges of:
-Assault with a Weapon,
-Administering Noxious Substance,
-Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose and
-Carrying a Concealed Weapon.
He was released with an upcoming court date. Portage la Prairie RCMP continue to investigate
