Some may say Leslie Toovey’s goal of bringing Canadian recording artist Aaron Goodvin to the stage in Shoal Lake this summer is nothing but a ‘big dream in a small town’. But with a little help, dreams can become realities in small towns, too.

That’s just what the Shoal Lake Leisure Services Co-ordinator is hoping for in order to bring Goodvin to the Shoal Lake Communiplex on Friday, July 20, along with the female Celtic group, Nice Horse. Toovey said she needs to come up with $10,000 in sponsorship or ticket sales by mid-March.

“While I have initiated bringing one fantastic musical showcase to Shoal Lake, filling the campgrounds and seeing the community explode with excitement, it will take more than my drive and determination. It will take me and you,” she said.

The venue can accommodate 1,400 concert-goers and Toovey said it will feature two bar areas and food trucks, creating the perfect summer concert atmosphere. Having put together a number of sponsorship packages, she is looking for support at different levels. Call or email her at the office for more information.

The concept of big dreams coming true in a small town is well known to country artist Aaron Goodvin. He grew up in the tiny town of Spirit River, AB and began singing around family campfires. At the age of 12, Goodvin had his first taste of stage life and today, he loves nothing more than to showcase his passion and connect people through his music, no matter the size of the community.

Goodvin recently performed in Winnipeg while touring with Gord Bamford, and he will be taking the stage at Dauphin’s Countryfest this summer. If all goes as planned, Goodvin will return to the area on July 20, bringing fellow Alberta-based, Nice Horse, with him.
Often compared to the Dixie Chicks, the high-energy female band is guaranteed to raise the roof with songs like “Pony Up”.

Goodvin is best known for songs “Lonely Drum”, “Knock on Wood”, “Miss Me Yet” and his first Top 10 hit, “Woman In Love”, inspired by his wife Victoria.
