Pow Wow in The Park

The sound of drums could be heard several blocks away from Victoria Park where the annual Pow Wow was held June 5. Schools and citizens from all over Virden came to watch the brightly dressed dancers and empowering drumming group.

dressed dancers and empowering drumming group. Bannock dogs and bannock hamburgers were sold as well as regular bannock. Speeches were given from the principal of VCI, Mr. Keown. as well as Fort La Bosse School Division Superintendant, Barry Pitz.

The dancers performed various dances. from a prairie chicken dance to the grass dancers, there was something to enjoy around every corner. The dancers ranged from young to old, and all danced with the same passion for the art as the last dancer. Battling Horse the name of the drumming/singing group - had gone to Gathering of the Nations, a worldwide drum and dance competition and come back with first place. The afternoon ended with a dance that incorporated everyone dancing and watching the performance.
