Powerview RCMP investigate fire

A burning building in Powerview-Pine Falls is being investigated.

On Oct. 14, at approximately 9:30 p.m., RCMP responded to a structure fire at an abandoned school, on Walnut Street, in Powerview-Pine Falls.

When RCMP arrived on the scene, the local Fire Department was battling the fire, and additional units from Lac du Bonnet and Sagkeeng First Nation, were en route to assist.

The fire was extinguished but caused significant damage. No one was injured in the fire.

At this time the cause of the fire appears to be suspicious. RCMP notified the Office of the Fire Commissioner, who is assisting with the investigation.

Powerview-Pine Falls is a town on the Winnipeg River, about one and a half hours northeast of Winnipeg, with a population of about 1,300 people.
