RCMP Report - August 28, 2015

Staff Sergeant Steve Sumner reported 50 calls for duty from August 18 to 24. Twenty-two of the files were under the Traffic Act and two of the files were false alarms. August 18 Received a 911 hang up call from Virden.

Staff Sergeant Steve Sumner reported 50 calls for duty from August 18 to 24. Twenty-two of the files were under the Traffic Act and two of the files were false alarms.

August 18

  • Received a 911 hang up call from Virden. Investigation found the caller was intoxicated and upset. Police assistance was no longer required.
  • Police were advised of a possible impaired driver on the Trans-Canada Highway heading towards Brandon. Brandon RCMP were advised, however the vehicle was not located.

August 19

  • Received a complaint of a hit and run to a vehicle in Virden. Investigation is still ongoing.
  • Police received a request to assist a complainant who was at the Kirkella info centre on the Trans-Canada Highway. The complainant stated that her husband had driven off without her, leaving her at the info centre. The husband was contacted and had told the police he thought she was still in the back of the vehicle asleep. The husband said he was west of Brandon and would meet the police half way to pick up his wife.
  • Received a report of a vehicle fire on Wellington Street. It is believed the fire was caused by wiring in the vehicle. The fire department attended and put out the fire.
  • Received a report of four people breaking into the Virden Pool. Police attended and found the subjects were authorized to be in the pool area.

August 20

  • Alarm call to a business in Oak Lake; police attended and the alarm was found to be false.
  • Police were advised of a fraud. Checks were being written on a closed account. The investigation is still ongoing.
  • Received a complaint of two females sitting in a vehicle at a downtown business. Police attended, found the driver was intoxicated. The driver was charged with impaired driving.

August 21

  • Received a complaint of a possible impaired driver. Police made patrols but were unable to locate the vehicle.
  • Received a call of mischief to a truck with the driver side mirror smashed. No suspects or witnesses.
  • Police were advised of a male making threats. The threats were not criminal in nature and the complainant was advised to apply for a peace bond.
  • Received a call of a seven-year-old driving a quad around Oak Lake Beach. Unfortunately members were not able to attend the scene right away. Patrols were made later and the quad was unable to be found.

August 22

  • Received an alarm call to a business in Virden; police attended and found the alarm was false.
  • Report of a possible impaired driver on the Trans-Canada Highway. Police made patrols and found the vehicle. The driver was found to not be intoxicated.
  • Call received of a stolen lawn ornament, no suspects or witnesses.

August 23

  • Police received a call of a male acting strangely on a bicycle. The man was located and arrested under the mental health act. He was brought to the hospital for an assessment.

August 24

  • Received a complaint of a female being assaulted by a male. File still under investigation.
  • Police received a call of a missing person possibly hitchhiking near Kola. Police attended and found the male, but he was not the missing person.
