RCMP Report - July 24, 2015

Staff Sergeant Steve Sumner reported 111 calls for service between July 7 and July 20, 63 of which were under the highway traffic act. There were eight false alarms.

A single vehicle roll-over occurred about three miles east of Virden on the east-bound lane of the TransCanada Highway, July 21, at 5:00 p.m. The fire department, EMS and RCMP attended the scene. RCMP stated that the driver, the sole occupant of the car, was uninjured.

  •  Alarm sounded at a business in Virden; alarm was cancelled prior to police attendance.
  •  Received a call about an armed robbery in Kenton. One young offender has been charged and arrested, and will be appearing in court.

July 9

  •  Police received a call of a dispute over property at a farm in the RM of Wallace and Woodworth. Subject of the complaint departed upon arrival of the police. The matter was civil in nature.

July 10

  •  Complaint of a hit and run to a parked vehicle that was at a downtown business in Virden. The driver was identified and didn’t realize that he had damaged the vehicle.
  •  Semi driver advised his two trailers had caught fire. Firefighters attended and were able to subdue the flames. Traffic was stopped until everything was cleared.
  •  Police pulled over a driver who failed to slow down in the presence of emergency vehicles. He was under the influence of alcohol and was taken back to the station where he failed a breath test and was charged with driving under the influence.
  •  Police received a call of a gas and dash from a gas station in Virden.

July 11

  •  Police received a call of mischief; suspect was throwing metal doors and wood off of the Queen Street bridge.
  •  Police received a 911 call that a vehicle had rolled. Upon arrival the police found no passengers and were not sure how long the vehicle had been there. The vehicle was found to be stolen from the Brandon area and it was towed.
  •  Complaint of a hit and run to a vehicle in Virden. There were no suspects or witnesses.

July 12

  •  Police received a call of a man on the ground unconscious. Ambulances were dispatched. Upon finding the man, they discovered he was suffering from a drug overdose and he was taken to hospital by ambulance.
  •  Intoxicated male approached the police, unsure of where he was and requested a ride. After refusing to provide ID he was arrested for being intoxicated in public. He later provided ID and was taken to a friend’s home.
  •  Police received a call of an alarm going off in a residence; alarm was cancelled prior to police arrival.

July 13

  •  Police received a call of a suspicious vehicle in front of a business. The owner was contacted and he advised the police that he had damaged the vehicle and was just leaving it there over the weekend.

July 14

  •  Police received a call from a complainant that they had heard glass break and they saw two subjects run away from the residence. The subjects seemed to be wearing dark clothing. Police attended the scene, but were unable to locate the suspects.

July 15

  •  Police received a 911 call about a domestic disturbance. Both subjects were arrested, and later released on undertakings and conditions to appear in court.

July 16

  •  Four false alarms, one in Kenton, one in Oak Lake, and two in Virden. Police attended but all was clear.
  •  Police were advised of a suspicious vehicle on the side of Highway #1 by Oak Lake. The vehicle was towed and the owner was contacted.

July 17

  •  Police were advised of two females activating the bell in Oak Lake. Possibly intoxicated, however police were unable to locate the suspects.
  •  Police received an open line 911 call. Police attended, found a family dispute. The dispute was settled and no arrests were made.

July 18

  •  A vehicle swerved to miss a deer in the RM of Wallace-Woodworth and lost control. The vehicle rolled into the ditch, it was damaged and towed. No injuries.

July 19

  •  Two false alarms, both in Virden and both were cancelled.
  •  Police received a 911 call from a woman advising her boyfriend had been hitting her. Male was arrested for assault and held until sober. He was released on a promise to appear in court.

July 20

  •  Received a complaint about an incident in Virden, investigation still ongoing. A reminder to citizens, the past couple of days the police have received calls and complaints once again from the Revenue Canada Scam. If you are being contacted by someone who is telling you that you are behind on your taxes and you need to pay or you will be arrested, they are trying to steal your money.
