On July 1, the sons of Harvey Nichol came into town to visit the Pioneer Museum in Virden, which was once the home of Harvey and his family. Larry, Ron, Dave and Roger rode their motorcycles from southwestern Ontario to Virden. Harvey was a past employee of the Empire-Advance working as a pressman around the late 1940s. He passed away September 16, 2014 and his sons thought it would be nice to visit the home that he was fond of. They had not been back in Virden all together since 1962. Unfortunately, their sisters Sandi and Sharon could not make this trip.

After having a nice breakfast at the Chicken Chef in downtown Virden, the brothers walked some of the streets downtown and then rode the bikes over to the Pioneer Museum. They enjoyed a wonderful tour through the museum guided by Christina, who did all she could to help them in finding clues to what life was like back then, and were humbled by the thought that they were walking the halls and rooms that their father had walked so long ago.

They were also surprised at all of the pristine antiques found in the museum. Honestly, the expectation was that there would be a few clothes and agricultural implements but the museum is home to many diverse artifacts from the past.

All in all, the museum was worth the stop, even with the knowledge that it contains artifacts from years other than those when Harvey resided there. They found the museum to be interesting and the tour guide friendly and informative.
