Reston celebrates the clubhouse they've been waiting for

Some six years ago, this recreational amenity was just a gleam in the eye... until this summer.

The multi-year roll-out to develop Reston’s recreation park was capped off with the grand opening of the golf clubhouse recently. Plans began some six years ago to enhance the campground, create the lake and add a spray park. The new clubhouse for the nine-hole golf course is the finishing touch.

The Co-op Community Clubhouse Grand Opening drew a crowd for two supper sittings on Friday, Sept. 2. Diners enjoyed a Bud, Spud and Steak evening meal and entertainment followed by local vocalist Kari Schiltroth accompanied by Terrance Williamson.

Reston businessman and community builder Ross Tycoles joined the recreation park board of directors, inspired to see this project completed. He summarized what this building means to local recreation: “I think it’s a great addition to the whole area. The lake is better served,” said Tycoles.

The new clubhouse is designed for year-round use and will service winter recreation at the rec park. Ski and snowshoe rentals will be available here and with Reston Lake almost on the doorstep, it will serve as a cozy place to lace up skates.

Tycoles explained, “The intent is to clean the lake off and skate on it. It’s not just a clubhouse. It’s a multi-use facility that we’re pretty proud of.”

Valleyview Co-op supported this project with the purchase of the 10-year naming rights for $50,000.

Construction began in October of 2021 on the clubhouse project. By June 24 of this past summer the $1.2 million project was completed and open to the public.

Amanda and Braeden Grey of the Denis County Café were contracted to provide food service through to September 24 this year.

This bright new golf clubhouse is licensed to seat 100 and in the coming years, Pipestone Recreation Director Tara Cowan says golfers can enjoy the clubhouse for the entire summer season.

Tycoles summarized the project saying, “It’s an excellent addition to the area. We’re used by a lot of people and I think it’s good for everybody.”
