Every year schools take part in a Terry Fox event to raise funds for cancer research in Canada. The campaign in schools across Canada was kicked off mid-September. Virden Junior High fundraised for two weeks prior to their Terry Fox 6 kilometre walk on Oct. 14. Their fundraising goal was $3500.
Grade 8 teacher Dustin Asham provided an extra incentive, challenging the students to meet that goal, and if they did, he would shave his hair into a mullet cut.
They did and he did.
In fact, the school raised $4,600 in total thanks to their efforts and generous donors. Fundraising was conducted through online pledges as well as pledges that students took to enable them to accept donations.
