Two artists from just over the border in Saskatchewan are showing their works in a joint exhibit this month at the CPR Historic Centre in Virden.

Jacqui Beckett of Moosomin and Holly Dauvin of Maryfield are inspired to create using watercolours, oils, acrylic, pastels and pencil. What they have in common is their subject matter: the wonders of nature.

For this exhibition, each has her own gallery room hung with the products of years of observing, admiring and paying homage to the beauty of the natural world.

If you enjoy representative art where objects look like themselves only better, you will feel right at home here.

Jacqui Beckett

Beckett’s relationship with nature began as a child with a magnifying glass in the backyard and on nature walks with her dad and grandmother.

That early imprinting comes through in minutely-detailed flowers, wildlife and rocks.

“I do like to try new techniques such as chalk pastel, wax batik, and most recently dyeing and painting on silk. But I am inevitably drawn back into my realistic watercolour world.”

Holly Dauvin

“I enjoy doing people and animal portraits in pastel and landscapes in acrylic, pastel and watercolour,” Dauvin writes in her artist’s bio.

She’s studied in workshops with renowned artists like Weiming Zhao, Chris Reed and David Langevin. Dauvin is a regular at the Hamiota Art Club and in summer attends art retreats in both provinces.

The exhibit at Arts Mosaic runs until the end of June.

Originals and prints are available for purchase. Art prints range from $5 to $40. Original paintings range from $60 to $600.
