Two lives are lost in a two-vehicle collision on Highway 16 near Neepawa

In a tragic accident on Valentine's Day afternoon, two people lost their lives on the Yellowhead Highway, a few miles east of the town of Neepawa.

On Feb. 14, at 2:25 p.m., an officer with Spruce Plains RCMP was travelling westbound on Highway 16 when he came across a two-vehicle collision, near the intersection of Road 82 W., located approximately eight kilometres east of Neepawa.

Investigators have determined that a westbound vehicle with two occupants, a 45-year-old female driver and a 16-year-old male passenger, had crossed over the center line and was struck by an eastbound SUV with two occupants, an 81-year-old male driver and a 75-year-old female passenger.

Both occupants of the westbound vehicle, the woman and the boy of 16, from Neepawa, were pronounced deceased on scene.

The two occupants of the eastbound SUV, from Plumas, were taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. All of the occupants were wearing seatbelts.

Spruce Plains RCMP, along with a Forensic Collision Reconstructionist, continue to investigate.
